Early Arrival

Early arrival at school is discouraged. We ask that students do not arrive at school before 8:20 a.m. Supervision is not provided any earlier than 8:25 a.m. unless they are enrolled in the before school program.

Early Dismissal

Students may be dismissed early from school in the case of illness or emergency. If you know in advance that you will need to have your child dismissed early, it would be helpful if you could contact the school in writing or by phone. When you come in to pick up your child, it is important that you sign them out in the office.

No child will be dismissed to an individual other than their parent unless the school has written [or verbal] permission from the parent and the individual can be properly identified (eg; drivers license).

In the event that the school requests an early dismissal (due to inclement weather, student illness etc.), it is the obligation of the parent to make sure that prior arrangements have been made with a relative, neighbor or other responsible adult to be responsible for the welfare of your child.

Early Release Days [see also Teacher Workshop Days]

During the year there are scheduled early release days. The early release days are listed on the district calendar. Please take note of these special days. We begin dismissing the children at 12:55pm. [Note also Teacher Workshops days when school is not in session for students]

Email [see more Communication]

All teaching staff have an email address and welcome contact from parents via email. Staff email addresses can be accessed from the staff page on the school web page.  Teachers will respond to emails within 24 hours.

If you would like to be included in the Derry Village email distribution list please contact the school secretary via email. Your email address will not be shared with anyone else and we will only send you monthly newsletters and reminders about early dismissals, PTA events and other special school events.

Electronic devices [see Personal Property]

“Electronic devices” include, but are not limited to, telephones, cellular phones, computers, tablets, e-book readers, electronic mail, instant messaging, text messaging, and websites.

Emergency Cards

At the beginning of each school year you will receive two emergency cards that are to be completed for each child. Please read these cards carefully and fill out both sides before you return them to school.

The information contained on these cards is critical to your child’s safety and well being. Should changes occur during the school year, please update the information with the office as soon as the change occurs.

We sometimes have great difficulty reaching parents in emergency situations due to insufficient or inaccurate information on these cards.

Emergency Drills

Throughout the school year, students and staff will participate in emergency evacuation drills. We will also perform “lock-down” drills. Participation in these drills is mandatory and is regarded as a valuable tool in maintaining school safety. Do not be concerned for your child’s safety during these drills, our staff is well trained and efficient in performing all necessary drills.

English-Language Learners

ELL (English-language learners) is a broad term used to describe students whose second language is English - that is to say children who are raised in homes where the main language spoken is not English. ELL is now being used as a term to replace other, more specific, categories, including students with limited english proficiency (LEP), second-language learners (SLL), and English as a Second Language (ESL).

Excused, Absence [see eXcused, Absence, see Attendance]

Extended Day Program [Daycare]

Extended day care services are available through Derry Village Extended Day Program for parents who work. This program is run separately from the school though it is located at Derry Village. The program is specifically designed for children who would be going home to an empty house. Details on this program are provided to all parents at the beginning of the school year. The program has limited space. To contact the director call 603-818-1008.

Extra Curricula Activities

Extracurricular activities provide students with multiple opportunities to develop and showcase social, athletic, and academic skills in a non-classroom environment. Derry Village encourages all students to explore the many opportunities available to them outside the classroom. Possible programs of interest might include: Chorus (grades 4-5), Band (grades 4-5), Running Club (grades 4-5), PTA enrichment (K-5) and Ski Club (grades 3-5)
